Description

“The Handblown Large Damascus Marbles are carefully and lovingly created by Virginia and Tony at their glassblowing studio in Halton Hills, On. Their handblown artglass marbles are extremely collectible. A large selection of their marbles are in the permanent collection of the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto.

Damascus glass is a combination of one or more colors of glass canes. The canes are picked up on the glass and manipulated and folded many times. This creates a distinct pattern on the surface of the glass. Every piece produced is unique. The patterns may be similar, but never identical. The term Damascus refers to a type of steel blade. The blade is made using a process of folding and hammering the material. This results in beautiful swords and knives.

This patterned in metal has been in existence for over 2000 years and originated in the Middle East. “King Tut” is another name for this pattern. In Medieval times metal smiths forged Damascus swords and knives with great skill.  Their owners believed the strange whorls and ripples lent them to have mystical powers.

Virginia and Tony anneal all their handblown glass in a digitally controlled annealer for strength and durability. The images you’ll see are of our actual glass selection and the piece you will receive should you make a purchase.

Today Virginia and Tony bring you Handblown Large Damascus Marbles resulting in this fascinating ripple like pattern of unique beauty to grace and charm your home or collection. Your marble will come in a gift box with an artist card and a rubber “O” ring to display it on.
